演講內容概要
There has been a major trend, in recent scholarship, to conceptualize the Transcultural Encounter in terms of the Otherness, as developed, theoretically and methodologically, within the contexts of historical, anthropological and psychological studies. Comparative Literature has, undoubtedly, contributed enormously to this development, particularly in its analysis of the textual creation of The Other, carried out in the field of post-colonialism.
My aim, in the present talk, is to examine some important aspects of the Other in the study of the Early Modern Christian mission in China (17th century, Late Ming and Early Qing dynasties). I will try to demonstrate why the phenomenology of the Other is particularly suitable to display the immense complexity and richness of the encounter of two completely different civilizations and modes of thought, with their own spiritual, philosophical and cultural thoughts, values and categories.
主講人介紹
Iveta Nakládalová, PhD., is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Comparative Literature at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain). She focuses on Early Modern cultural history, and on Early Modern Sino-Western Cultural Encounter and the Catholic mission in China (Ming and Early Qing dynasties; approx. 1550-1720). She authored several books and articles on Early Modern theory of reading, religious and devotional literature, literary censorship and epistemological practices, and Utopia.
